Common AC & Heating Questions
Quick answers about automotive AC service, refrigerant types, and what to expect when your climate control isn't performing.
What's the difference between R134a and R1234yf refrigerant?
R134a is the older refrigerant standard used in most vehicles made before 2015–2017. R1234yf is a newer, lower-global-warming-potential refrigerant required in most vehicles from 2017 onward, especially European imports and newer domestic models. Using the wrong type can damage your system. We verify your vehicle's spec before every recharge.
How do I know if my car's AC needs a recharge or has a bigger problem?
If your AC blows slightly warmer than it used to, it's often a low refrigerant issue that a recharge resolves. If it blows warm air completely, cycles on and off rapidly, or makes a grinding noise, the compressor, expansion valve, or a leak may be the cause. We run a full pressure test before recommending a recharge to rule out underlying problems.
When is the best time to get my AC serviced?
Spring is ideal. Getting your system checked before summer heat hits means faster appointment availability and no surprises on a 90° day. That said, we handle AC service year-round, including same-day refrigerant recharges when the schedule allows.
Do you service AC systems on imported and foreign vehicles?
Yes. We work on all makes and models. Including Honda, Toyota, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Subaru, Volkswagen, and more. Foreign vehicles often use R1234yf and manufacturer-specific climate control calibrations, and our diagnostic equipment is equipped to handle them.
Can a refrigerant recharge fix a heater that isn't working?
No, the heating system is separate from the AC refrigerant circuit. Heater issues are typically caused by a failing heater core, low coolant, a stuck thermostat, or a faulty blend door actuator. If your heat isn't working, we diagnose the cooling/heating system independently of your AC.
